The Bunpimay Festival, according to the Buddhist calendar, spans three days (April 14th - 16th in the Gregorian calendar) each year. It is an occasion for the people of Laos to welcome the New Year, pray for favorable weather, abundant harvests, and the well-being of all living beings. On the festival day, Laotian people often gather at temples to make offerings to the Buddha, pray, listen to sermons from monks, perform the Buddha bathing ritual, and pour water on each other's hands as a gesture of blessing. They wish each other the best for the coming year, filled with happiness, luck, and abundance.
