National Conference on ‘Language Education for the Future: Innovation and Application’ successfully hosted

On December 21, 2024, Hong Duc University, in collaboration with the Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Haiphong University of Management and Technology, and the University of Economics – Technology for Industries, hosted the National Conference titled "Language Education for the Future: Innovation and Application." The conference aims to bring together academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Language and Language Teaching. It also provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Language and Language Teaching.

The event welcomed notable participants, including Mr. Trinh Trong Nam, Head of the Secondary Education Department, Thanh Hoa Department of Education and Training; Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Vice President of Haiphong University of Management and Technology; Dr. Nguyen Tat Thang, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University of Agriculture; Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Science and Technology Department, University of Economics and Industrial Technology; and over 100 representatives from 15 universities, colleges, high schools, and English language centers nationwide.

Representing Hong Duc University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dau Ba Thin, Vice President of the university; Dr. Nguyen Thi Quyet, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages; contributing authors; faculty members; and more than 400 students from the Department of Foreign Languages.

In his opening address, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dau Ba Thin expressed his delight in welcoming the delegates and emphasized the significance of the conference. He described it as a distinguished academic forum for sharing research findings, innovative solutions, and best practices aimed at enhancing the quality of language education—a critical discipline for preparing students to integrate and thrive in a globalized world.

The organizing committee received over 50 research submissions from scholars, academics, and educators across the country, selecting qualified 44 ones for inclusion in the conference proceedings. These papers covered diverse topics, including applied linguistics, language teaching methodologies, e-learning and online education, blended learning, translation and interpretation training, language assessment and evaluation, curriculum and materials development, teacher professional development, information technology in language education, and cultural and intercultural dimensions in teaching.

During the plenary session, delegates attended a presentation by Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Vice President of Haiphong University of Management and Technology, on the topic "ChatGPT and Its Impacts on University Students’ Engagement in EFL."

Following the plenary session, the conference divided into six sub-committees that facilitated in-depth discussions on innovative language teaching trends and the integration of emerging technologies to meet the evolving needs of learners and the demands of modern society.

The research presented and the discussions held during the conference introduced new solutions and effective teaching strategies, offering valuable insights to improve language education in Vietnam. These outcomes contribute significantly to the country’s educational development.

The National Scientific Conference on "Language Education for the Future: Innovation and Application" concluded successfully, generating meaningful outcomes and advancing understanding of contemporary trends and innovations. The event underscored the importance of sustainable development in language education and provided actionable strategies to achieve this goal.
