Shaping the Digital Transformation Model in Higher Education: From Practical Insights to Strategic Orientation

On June 13, 2025, Hong Duc University hosted a scientific conference themed “Digital Transformation Models in Higher Education Institutions in the Current Context.” The event was co-organized by the university’s Trade Union, the Science, Technology & International Cooperation Office, and the Trade Unions of universities under Emulation Group No. 04 – Vietnam Education Trade Union

The conference welcomed representatives from Vinh University, including Dr. Duong Thi Thanh Hai – Member of the University Trade Union Executive Committee, Head of the Women's Committee; Dr. Nguyen Duc Dien – Deputy Director of the Center for Student Services and Business Relations; along with other scholars such as Dr. Bui Minh Thuan and Dr. Le Thi Thu Hiep.

From Hong Duc University, the attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Chi Thanh – Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Thi Kim Phuong – Head of Science, Technology & International Cooperation Office; Dr. Nguyen Van Toan – Chairman of the University Trade Union; leaders of faculties, departments, centers, lecturers, researchers, and many interested delegates.

The conference aimed to create an open academic space for scholars, administrators, and lecturers to share recent research findings, effective implementation models, and existing challenges in the digital transformation of higher education.

In his keynote speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Chi Thanh emphasized that digital transformation is not merely about applying technology but represents a fundamental shift in mindset, organization, and training methods. He affirmed that this conference marks an important step in the university's development strategy and offers a practical forum for spreading innovative thinking. He also highlighted the pivotal role of lecturers in the digital transformation process and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to investing in technological infrastructure and human resource development to meet emerging demands.

The organizing committee received nearly 40 research papers from universities across and beyond the province, including Hanoi Open University, Vinh University, Nha Trang University, Hai Phong University, and the University of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa, as well as various trade union branches within Hong Duc University. Out of these, 26 high-quality papers closely aligned with the conference theme were selected for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings.

The presentations were categorized into five major thematic groups:

  1. Theoretical Overview – emphasizing the role, trends, and national policies promoting digital transformation (e.g., Resolution 57-NQ/TW by the Politburo);

  2. Models and Solutions – focusing on advanced technologies such as AI, big data, and digital ecosystems in management, teaching, and research;

  3. Challenges and Opportunities – analyzing barriers in infrastructure, digital capacity of staff, and data system integration;

  4. Practical Experiences – sharing successful models, lessons learned, and possibilities for replication;

  5. Policy Proposals and Recommendations – aiming to improve governance and ensure sustainability in the digital transformation of higher education.

Four notable presentations were featured at the event:

  • “Digital Infrastructure in Higher Education: Practices and Solutions from Hong Duc University” by Dr. Le Dinh Nghiep - Director of the Information Technology, Communication & Library Services Center

  • “The Role of Vinh University Lecturers in the Era of Industry 4.0” by Dr. Nguyen Duc Dien - Deputy Director of the Center for Student Services and Business Relations

  • “Solutions to Improve the Ranking of Hong Duc University in the Context of Digital Transformation” by Dr. Le Thi Lan - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration

  • “Application of AI in Enrollment Promotion and Counseling” by Dr. Nguyen Dinh Cong - Head of the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Communications.

These presentations vividly illustrated current trends and practical examples in digital transformation across institutions.

The conference also saw lively discussions and constructive feedback from scientists, administrators, and educators, focusing on issues such as enhancing digital competencies for lecturers, integrating management software systems, building digital governance models, applying AI in teaching, developing open educational resources, and designing tools to assess digital capabilities. Suggestions also included the need for context-specific policy support for each institution.

The scientific conference successfully reaffirmed the pioneering role of universities in driving and spreading a spirit of innovation in society. Beyond being an academic forum, it introduced new approaches to research, administration, and teaching, and helped build a connected community of knowledge to collectively advance a modern, flexible, and human-centered digital education system.
