A comparison between 2010–2015 and 2016–2025 shows significant progress in research. While only 3–4 provincial projects were approved annually in earlier years, the number has now reached 5–9 per year, with increased funding. Many research outcomes have been successfully applied and transferred into production and daily life. Outstanding examples include the Hong Duc 9 rice variety, recognized as a national variety in 2016; the QT55 maize variety, granted intellectual property protection in 2021; and a multifunctional hospital bed, which won third prize at the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards in 2021.

From 2020 to 2025, the University published 1,648 scientific papers, with 345 (20.9%) appearing in prestigious international journals indexed in WoS and Scopus, averaging 0.9 papers per lecturer per year. Over the past decade (2015–2025), faculty members have published 4,637 domestic papers and 640 international papers. According to independent studies using Web of Science and Scopus data, Hong Duc University ranked 49th out of 256 Vietnamese higher education institutions in 2019 and 52nd in 2024 in terms of international publications.
In recognition of these efforts, many lecturers have been honored with prestigious awards: one was named “Outstanding Scientist of Vietnam,” five were recognized as “Outstanding Scientists of Thanh Hoa Province,” and six received the title “Excellent Scientist of Thanh Hoa Province.” These achievements affirm the University’s scientific credibility and the quality of its academic staff.
Between 2020 and 2025, the University organized 89 academic conferences at different levels, covering timely topics such as post-COVID-19 socio-economic development, English language education (in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy), mathematics and its applications (with the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics), and sustainable tourism (with DAAD, Germany).

Student research is also strongly encouraged, with over 500 student-led projects in the past five years, many of which have won ministerial-level awards. Entrepreneurship and innovation activities have flourished through competitions and workshops, gaining recognition at provincial and national levels.
To further enhance international publications, the University has introduced strong incentive policies. Articles published in WoS-indexed Q1 journals are rewarded with funding equivalent to 20 times the basic salary, while Q2, Q3, and Q4 articles, as well as Scopus-indexed publications, receive proportional support. These policies have motivated faculty members to engage in high-quality research and strengthened the University’s academic presence.
